The purpose of Sentio is to build awareness about homelessness in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This Web page includes snippets of video and other stuff about some special people who attend Hot Dog Lunch in Veterans’ Park in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. It’s also in some ways a continuation of a newsletter started about 10 years ago called The Homeless Grapevine. This is basically a page for the poor, a place for their stories, philosophies, pearls of wisdom, or maybe even a plug for the work that they do. Many of the people who attend Hot Dog Lunch are working artists. The work that appears here – whether still, video and/or audio – is protected by copyright. Each artist owns the copyright to his/her work and appears here with permission. If you are interested in donating food or funds to Hot Dog Lunch, please contact Judie Brown, Instruments of Peace, 616.837.6320.

Our community has wonderful individuals and groups dedicated to raising awareness about the issue of homelessness – and also amazing people and organizations that do something about it (see resources below). The site is meant to build awareness – and maybe break down a few barriers – by providing a forum where those who have experienced poverty and even homelessness can share their stories, thoughts, perhaps some poetry, or even their art.
